2014 Schedule
The Living History:  June 6, 2014 and June 7, 2014

Location: Alma Bacon County Recreation Department, 133 Magnolia Drive, Alma, GA 31510.

Visit the campsites of the Civil War soldiers and the Indians to see how they lived their times:

  • A campsite complete with tent, cooking pot, gun rack, etc.
  • A Six-Man Unit demonstrating marching, loading, and firing of muskets.
  • A Medical Historian’s display and explanation of medical instruments used in the war.
  • An exhibit of women’s clothing including a ballroom gown and the grieving black dress.
  • The demonstration and firing of a replica cannon used during the war.

Teachers and school officials have enthusiastically requested that the Living History return next year.

Blueberry Cook-Off:  Saturday May 31,2014 at 10:30 A.M.

Location: Bacon County Extension, 203 S. Dixon Street, Alma, GA 31510.

blueberry pieSponsored by Jay’s IGA, this culinary competition is a winner. Submit any blueberry dish to be judged on taste, appearance, nutrition and recipe. Blueberry Gospel: Thursday June 5, 2014 at 7:00 P.M.

Sponsored by Richmond Baking, the Blueberry Gospel features inspiring gospel music from "Down East Boys" and "The Freedom Quartet".

Blueberry Pancake Breakfast: Saturday June 7, 2014 starting at 7:00 A.M.

pancakesAlma Lion’s Club makes these piping hot pancakes using Georgia blueberries, blueberry syrup, and homegrown sausage. Starting at 7:00 A.M., this is a must! Tickets are $4.00 each, and you can call Danny Turner at (912) 632-6732 for advance tickets.

Fun Run: June 7, 2014 at 6:30 A.M.

Starting Line: 1st Baptist Church, 201 N. Church Street, Alma, GA 31510

fun runBacon County Hospital sponsors this run. You can set your own pace in either the 5K or 1 mile Fun Run. Registration begins at 6:30 A.M. and run is at 8:00 A.M. Contact Karen McCarty at (912) 632-8961 if you want to join the fun.

Senior Beauty Pageant: June 6, 2014 at 6:00 P.M.

Blueberry Street Dance: June 6, 2014 at 8:00 P.M.

Blueberry Pie Eating: June 7, 2014 at 12:00 P.M.

pieCategories are for all ages. Come ready to cheer on your favorite competior or eat up the pies yourself. This event brings competitors from all over South Georgia.  Don’t miss this event.

blueberry plantBacon County 4-H booth features fresh blueberries and blueberry plants for sale. You will receive directions for caring for your new plants. They are friendly and helpful while sharing their blueberry products.

Blueberry Jam: Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 7:00 P.M.

bandThis is a fantastic way to end our Blueberry Festival Weekend. Our band this year is "Dark Horse"a local band featuring Brandyn Harnage. Bring your lawn chairs and tap your tootsies in Goldwasser Park.

Civil War Enactment: June 7, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. (Also, cannon firing Saturday night at 9 P.M. 

civil war enactmentThis is our Fourth year to feature a Civil War Enactment. The battle will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Recreation Center, Alma. Soldiers from all over the South will take part in this event. They will fire cannons (including special night time firing), muskets and fire arms. Before and after the battle, you can walk through their camp sites and learn how the soldiers lived. They will demonstrate clothing, eating, and preparing for battles. The guys and often girls enjoy sharing the history of the times.
